Celebs for Kids- Golf Event & River Rock Casino & Resort Celebs After-Party
August 15th
Celebs for Kids will be hosting a charity golf tournament held at Mayfair Lakes Golf and Country Club and a Celebrity Exclusive After-Party at River Rock Casino & Resort. The funds will provide support for the Ross Petty, The Arthritis Society Research Chair in Pediatric Rheumatology. Lupus is a severe autoimmune disease affecting any and often several body systems; it is chronic and requires lifelong medication and treatment. For some people with lupus, it can be life-threatening.
Most people are not aware that children and teenagers can get lupus. Children as young as 3 years of age can develop lupus; overall about 15% of all people with lupus had their disease start in childhood. When lupus begins in children, it is more severe than in adults. In short, lupus is a devastating disease for children and teens with a major impact on their lives.
There has been very little research in lupus in children and teens; nearly all the research that has been done has focused on adults with the disease. There are good reasons to believe that by studying children with lupus early in their disease, we may have a better chance to learn the causes of this disease. In turn, this will help us design more directed treatments for both children and adults, and lead us to considering a cure!

Queen Alexandra Foundation's 2008 European & Classic Car Picnic- Victoria BC
August 24th
Happening at the waterfront grounds of the Queen Alexandra Centre at 2400 Arbutus Road in Victoria from 10am- 2pm. This features over 150 rare, beautiful, unique classic cars on display with fun-filled activities and entertainment for the whole family. Spectator admission is by donation, and the fee per car entered in the show is $10. The European & Classic Car Picnic raises money each year to support the Queen Alexandra Foundation, and the over 20,000 children, youth and families the Foundation serves on Vancouver Island.
