Segal, Lu Claim First World Challenge Victory

Duo claim first victory in Ferrari of Vancouver / TR3 Racing Ferrari

March 25, 2018 (Austin, Texas) – Jeff Segal and Wei Lu claimed their first Pirelli World Challenge victory in their Ferrari of Vancouver sponsored Ferrari 488 GT3 on Sunday afternoon at the Circuit of The Americas in Austin, Texas.

After a strong showing in the first race of the weekend, held on Saturday afternoon, the no. 31 Ferrari of Vancouver / TR3 Racing Ferrari 488 GT3 claimed pole position in Sunday’s race due to Segal setting the fastest lap in Saturday’s race. Segal started the race and held on to the lead in the Pro/Am category until turning the car over to Lu.

After the pitstop for driver change and a fresh set of tires, Lu rejoined ahead of a three-way battle for position made up of cars in the Pro/Pro division. Taking part in his first professional racing event, Lu held off the group during the closing stages of the race to finish fourth overall and claim the Pro/Am class victory.

“I’m really happy to come away from my first professional race weekend with a win,” said Lu. “I learned a lot in today’s race, especially with the group of cars that were behind. I knew that we had one car between us and the next car in the Pro/Am class so I had to push very hard to keep our position. I just focused on putting in clean laps and traffic was not an issue and the Ferrari performed very well which helped me to stay ahead. I’m very proud to stand on the podium with Jeff and Ferrari of Vancouver.”

“Wei did a fantastic job today, as he did all weekend,” said Segal. “A ton of credit goes to the TR3 Racing team who gave us a really good Ferrari to race with here at CoTA and for really helping Wei through his first professional race weekend. Today was awesome. With the level of competition here in World Challenge, it’s really gratifying to qualify on the overall pole and lead the first part of the race. Since our focus was the class victory, I settled in and focused on building the gap to the next car in class. Wei then did an amazing job with a ton of pressure at the end of the race to secure the win.”

The Sprint-X races from Circuit of The Americas will be broadcast on CBS Sports Network on Sunday, April 1 at 4:00 PM ET. The next round of the World Challenge Sprint-X championship will be April 27-29 at Virginia International Raceway in Alton, VA.
